Breeding Process

Before your 1^st appointment

Choose the stallion to breed your mare to. Then, send a copy of the completed contract to scesoffice@southerncrescentequine.com‍

At your 1^st appointment‍

The Doctor will ultrasound the mare’s reproductive tract to determine where the mare is in her cycle. They may give the mare prostaglandins to induce estrus in the mare.

The Doctor may recommend a uterine culture and cytology to make sure the mare is as fertile as possible before breeding. 

When the mare is ready to be bred, she will stay at the clinic through ovulation. 

We will order semen when needed.

After being bred, the mare will come back for a 14-16 day pregnancy check.

Post Breeding‍

If the mare is pregnant at the 14-16 day check, the office will send a gestation calendar with the important vaccinations and pregnancy checks that are needed.

If she isn’t bred, the Doctor will work out a plan to try again.
